A symposium titled “Health in Language and Literature” will be held on May 16-18, 2025, in collaboration with Abu Ali ibn Sino Bukhara State Medical Institute (Uzbekistan), Health Sciences University (Turkey), and Balıkesir University (Turkey).


SYMPOSIUM OBJECTIVE

The symposium aims to contribute academically to topics such as health-related lexicographical studies in Turkish and Uzbek, the representation of health themes in literary texts, and Ibn Sina’s medical works and perspectives.


SYMPOSIUM TOPICS

  • Lexicographical studies on health-related terms in Turkish and Uzbek
  • The representation of health themes in literary texts
  • Ibn Sina’s medical works and his perspective on medicine
  • Analysis of philological works written on health
  • Studies on the language of health in Uzbek and Turkish
  • The development of medical terminology in Turkish
  • Health-related needs in teaching Turkish as a foreign language
  • Perspectives on simplifying medical language
  • Writers whose primary profession was medicine and their biographies
  • Etymological origins of health-related terms in General Turkic
  • Medicine in folk culture

Other language and literature studies related to the field of health may also be included in the symposium program upon the decision of the evaluation committee.


PRESENTATION LANGUAGES

The primary languages of the symposium will be Uzbek and Turkish. However, papers written in English, Russian, and other Turkic languages will also be accepted.


PRESENTATION FORMAT

The symposium will be held in a hybrid format, including both in-person and online sessions. Participants must specify their preferred presentation format during the application process. In-person presentations will take place in the designated session halls at Health Sciences University Buhara Ibn Sina Faculty of Medicine (Uzbekistan).

TRANSPORTATION & ACCOMMODATION

  • Flights: Direct flights from Istanbul to Bukhara are available twice a week. Participants arriving at Bukhara Airport will be welcomed upon arrival.
  • Accommodation Costs: No travel or accommodation fees will be covered for in-person participants. However, those who request assistance can receive support for hotel reservations at their own expense. The approximate daily cost of staying in a traditional boutique hotel in Bukhara is $40-45.
  • Tours: The Bukhara city tour is included in the symposium program. An optional trip to Samarkand will be organized on May 18, 2025.

PUBLICATION OF SYMPOSIUM PROCEEDINGS

Following the symposium, full papers will be published as an e-book with DOI numbers assigned to each paper. Additionally, the articles will be indexed in the international OpenAIRE index.
